Adventure City, more than just a place where carnies put down roots
Some call Adventure City the "ghetto Knott's" I call it cheap family fun tucked into a pocket-size park. Situated approximately 5 minutes south of Knott's Berry Farm on Beach Blvd. in Buena Park this park is perfect for kids ages 2 to 9 years old. It's the place to go when you're kids are itching for some pint-size thrills but you don't want to break the bank, you're not looking to waste an entire day standing in line trying to deal with jam packed crowds and cranky kids to get on three rides and you value your sanity. Trust me, the park is more of a half-day outing which is perfect for the napping crowd. Adventure City consists of 10 rides, 25 foot rock climbing wall,"petting farm", arcade, shows, food, a mist tent to cool off in after running from ride to ride and back again, oh and a Thomas the Tank Engine play area with train tables and tracks for imaginative play.
The food isn't anything spectacular with pizza that rivals Chuck E. Cheese but who goes to Chuck E. Cheese for a high quality pizza pie anyways? Same is true of Adventure City. You'll go for the price which is $13.95 for adults and kids with unlimited rides and shows, the small crowds which means ride wait time is 10 minutes or less which also means kids can ride that favorite ride once or twice or ten times and you'll go for the overly approachable goats and sheep in the petting farm. The park is clean, colorful and works a city theme. The rides are one step up from a 48-hour parking lot carnival but they are pretty well maintained and ran by some very pleasant employees. Something I really love about this quaint mini amusement park is there are 10 rides at this park and parents can ride on all but one. Even rides you'd normally think wouldn't hold your every expanding butt like their Giggle Wheel meaning kids don't have anything to fear with their parents seated snuggly beside them and you'll realize you're just too old for spinnie rides. Outside the park there are a few interesting, outdated shops and Hobby City Doll and Toy Museum which looked to me was closed and up for sale. The folks at Adventure City have threatened for the past several years to close their park's doors forever. However, each summer they're still operationing each day of the week. Let's keep fingers crossed they're able to fight the park being leveled to build condos. I know I will for at least seven more years.
