Another upcycled luminary idea to brighten your Festival of Lights
My kids are crawling the walls counting down the day until sundown Friday in anticipation of the beginning of Chanukah. The best I can do to keep them focused on the week ahead yet not damper their spirits is craft, craft, craft with them.
Last week my family made this tot-friendly menorah for our 3 year old daughter. And you'd think after using 9 recycled glass jars to craft it that we would've gone through all the glass jars we had in our home (not so)...The consequence of living with 2 PB&J addicts. We had so much fun Mod Podging tissue paper to glass jars that my kids were still begging to do more.
So, we came up with a quick variation to our recycled LED menorah. Using most of the same materials and steps we used to make the menorah we crafted a set of Chanukah luminaries. The only thing we did different is we decided to decorate our candle holders with blue and yellow Star of David symbols.
To make the Star of David symbols we did the following:
1. Cut out three different sized equilateral triangle templates from a recycled cereal box
2. Trace the templates onto blue and yellow tissue paper
3. Use Mod Podge to glue a triangle upside down to the jar
4. Then overlap a right side up triangle onto of the upside down triangle to form a Star of David
5. Seal the jar as per these instructions.
Light up your luminaries with LED tea lights or votive candles, like we did.
Our Star of David recycled luminaries give off the most beautiful soft light. My kids love watching them flicker in our windows. Display your finished jars on a mantel, table or window seal and light up your Chanukah nights with an extra added festive glow.
