Betty Crocker bakes up one mean site for birthday cake how-to's

I'm not one for baking with over processed commercial products. However, that doesn't stop me for borrowing an idea or two from their sites. And who'da thunk that Betty Crocker would be queen of birthday cake ideas? Ok, ok, ok...you're probably thinking "Um, duh, how about anyone who has ever "homemade" a cake from one her boxes and cans?" But seriously, I was blown away by the site's awesome collection of birthday cake tutorials.

I went to the site to check out their Lego cake tutorial but once there I discovered oh, so much more to love. I've seen other Lego cake ideas before however, Betty Crocker's DIY for the cake couldn't be any easier. I only wish I'd found it last October in time for my 10 year old Brickmaster's birthday.

The site is easy to navigate allowing you to break down the ideas based on gender, age and theme. Or you can search through 4 pages of cake-y goodness. The more involved cake tutorials have videos to go along with the directions for those of us who tend to be visual learners like myself.

I found the perfect cake for my daughter's 4th birthday which will be princess themed since she considers herself one. What royalty wouldn't want this castle cake at their party? The video makes it seem so doable even for the culinary challenged. They have a fairytale princess cake I'm tempted to try as well.

Heck, I'm so in love with the cakes on the site that if I had the time and need I'd toss out the princess theme altogether and make the farm animal cupcakes with red barn, pony cake, purse cake and finish with the cell phone cake just because. But that's crazy talk so I'll settle with making only the castle and princess cakes and bookmark the rest for future birthdays.

Let's not forget the boys! My favorite boy cakes (there are tons of girls that would love these cakes and vice versa) are space shuttle, pirate, fire engine, robot, train, electric guitar and little car cakes...and that's not even all the cakes.

I'm floored by Betty Crocker's offerings and I can't wait to get baking...pretty rare for me. I challenge you to find a theme they don't have a cake idea for! An inspiring site for parents with little know-how and a lot of good intentions.
