"Central Services Presents...The Board of Education"...I'm in.

Their new kids' CD educates like Schoolhouse Rock, humors and hooks like They Might Be Giants and yet sounds a bit like Ben Folds Five. They are Seattle's Central Services and they bring something cool to the school age crowd with "Central Services Presents...Board of Education". And just like when your child befriends a kid so cool you don't even mind having him over your house for playdates then you discover the kid's parents are even cooler, we can't get enough of their kids music as well as their "all grown-up" music, "Central Services", oddly enough is reminiscent of The Shins. Regardless of who they remind us of, they have a sound that's melodically their own with catchy songs full of well-thought out lyrics so multi-layered you'll find yourself listening to them over and over again. My son who is global warming obsessed loves their song "Ice Ages Are Fun" so much because it truly answers his bazillion questions that mommy just can't seem to correctly explain. My personal favorite happens to be "The Many Uses, and Dangers, Of Commas" a song that gets to the heart of those little, grammatical "Wishy-washy periods." And let's face it, tin foil robots + volcanoes = AWESOME...especially when big words like "recyclable" and "subduction" are used. It'll be a weird turn of events with you wanting to listen to your kids' music and not having to pull the ol' "My car, my music" card.
