Get the kids amped about the big meal: Read "The Passover Seder"

The Jewish festival Pesach (Passover) begins this Wednesday which means it's Seder time folks! A Seder is a very special meal which is accompanied by the reading of the Haggadah, the story of Passover. And, as those of you who celebrate Passover or have been to a family Seder know, these meals last hours meaning very squirmy kids. Of course kids play a huge role in the success of a Seder, but one worries if all the symbolism and customs are lost on the littlest participants?

Emily Sper's book The Passover Seder has to be the coolest children's book ever written about this important meal. This interactive book is filled with page after page of things for kids to pull, spin and open. It covers everything, in kid-friendly text, from a brief background history of Passover to inviting Elijah the Prophet to join the Seder. Three pages in you'll read about matzah then your kid gets to "lift" the cover and "break" the center matzah. Kids will also be introduced to the 10 plagues and have a chance to tip a cup of wine "spilling" drops for each plague. Bright and bold pictures, highlighted text and key Hebrew words broken down into English sounds make this an accessible book for any young kid attending or just learning about the Passover Seder. My kids, who are three and nine years old, both love this book and have so much fun reading it we often have to read it two or three time so everyone has a turn to do everything. An excellent book to get those kids excited about the Seder and encourage them to stay awake long enough to exclaim "Next year in Jerusalem."
