Happy Groundhog Day!
Yes, today is the day when we Americans let a rodent predict the changing of the seasons. Today is Groundhog Day and as of early this morning Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow. Thus, Spring will have to wait another six weeks--try telling that to my blooming yard.
Here are a few fun-filled facts about groundhogs to impress the kids. My favorite is "Insects do not bother groundhogs and germs pretty much leave them alone. They are resistant to the plagues that periodically wipe out large numbers of wild animals. One reason for this is their cleanliness." I'm hoping to use that one on the kids tonight when they whine at having to wash their hands before dinner.
Check out these Groundhog Day activities for something fun to do with the kids. We'll be making this cute little Pop-up Groundhog Puppet so we can play "scary shadow, no Spring for you" this evening.
