Robbert Bobbert knows how to rock the Pre-Ks

What happens when Robert Schneider, self-proclaimed mathematician and front man of indie-rock band The Apples in Stereo, takes his special blend of heavy synthesized, Beach Boy-ish sounds to the tot level? All sorts of kooky-goodness...beginning with a comic book alter-ego of Schneider named Robbert Bobbert. Robbert Bobbert is a scientist whose curiosity about the world leads to his passion for inventing fun. Which he successfully does on his self-titled debut album Robbert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine.

From super heroes to giants to puppies and laughing, the tunes on this CD, most appropriate for the Kindergarten and below set, play like a list of kids' favorite things. Short and sweet songs filled with overlays, bopping sounds and simplistic language become vehicles for very basic explanations of complex topics like gravity and clocks. This is a nice starting point for early learners who every day are faced with new concepts.

While my three year old daughter loves "I am a Clock" and "I Love the Animals," I find it hard not to like the groovy-catchy "We R Super Heroes" and "Boom Boom" a song we just can't help boxing a beat along with. Playing this album for my child means pushing aside the coffee table and spending the next several minutes pretending to be the faces of a clock, super heroes, puppies, giants, and ginormous elephants among other things. The CD is accompanied by a cute and colorful comic book illustrated by artist/cartoonist Todd Webb. Soon to come a television series based on Robbert Bobbert being developed by Creative Producer Carolyn Suzuki and "Yo Gabba Gabba" animation team Puny Entertainment. Although this kindie-rock album is most appealing to pint-sized music fans (us grown-ups will be less than motivated to have it on continuous loop) it offers music to jump around and sing along to with your little one... And what can be better than that?
