"Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving": a sweet little Turkey Day book
I'm not too keen on all these holiday themed books ripping from the classic story "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Clement Moore. This especially seems to be a popular thing to do when writing a children's Thanksgiving book. To me it's just one more way to force me to think about Christmas before Thanksgiving and that just bugs me something horrible. However, there is one exception I'm willing to make and I think you'll agree. Kooky author/illustrator Dav Pilkey has wrote the sweetest little Thanksgiving tale titled "Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving"that's simply just the best. This story is a family favorite of mine delighting us every November. It's a fun-filled, warm-hearted tale of finding friends in the most unusual places and following your heart.
"It's Autumn, and a classroom of children are on their way to a field trip at Mack Nugget's turkey farm. The children and the turkeys become best of pals, but their bliss ends when the children discover what's in store for their fine feathered friends. Can the children save the turkeys from certain doom? Find out in this silly and warm-hearted parody of Clement Moore's classic tale."
Don't be surprised if your little pilgrim is a bit apprehensive about dining on the traditional turkey after reading the story. Never fear, immediately direct him straight to Dav Pilkey's official site which has a swell section devoted to the book which contains background trivia, printable coloring pages, games including a book recall game and if you're truly desperate not to insult your mother in-law when your child flat-out refuses the succulent bird she's been cooking up since 4am there's a direct link to the Adopt a Turkey Project where from $25 and up your little pilgrim can help save a turkey and get that off their mind in time for the big meal.
