Upcycled sweater to Valentine's Day button skirt idea

As you know buttoning up is one of those life skills that all of us need to know if we're ever to get dressed on our own. My daughter turns three years old tomorrow and this skill tops my list of know-hows I hope to teach her this up coming next year of life. Not to forget how practicing buttoning buttons is a good way to strengthen those fine motor skills.

That's why I'm all a-flutter this rainy, Monday morning to have stumbled upon this great idea for using felt shapes to practice buttoning up courtesy of Maya of Maya*Made. Using heart shaped felt, a few vintage buttons and an old sweater she's put together a really special Valentine's day outfit for her little Valentine with oodles of educational value and style. She's even pointed out how versatile the idea is suggesting cutting out other felt shapes for when the hearts have served their purpose. I'm thinking this easy to assemble project holds even more educational goodies besides the obvious buttoning practice, sharpening of fine motor skills and recycling mini-lesson. I'm thinking I could use this idea and a variety of felt shapes in various colors to practice pattern skills with my wee one. Oh how delicious my dreary Monday has suddenly become.
