If you're like me you've been desperately wanting to stroll the grounds of the Getty Villa in Malibu exploring the Greek antiquities and such yet have hesitated since it's reopening over two years ago because you just can't shake the image of the havoc your tiny tikes are sure to wreck if cut lose on the villa's beautiful grounds.

The Getty Villa just might have the perfect opportunity for you to take in some art while exposing your kids to some much needed culture and proving to them that hey, art is kinda, well, cool. This Saturday, December 6th from 10 am to 5pm the villa is hosting a day of free, art-based family fun.

"Explore the ancient world with a day of music, storytelling, and art-making inspired by the Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities in the permanent collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa. Make antique-inspired headgear, explore the music of North Africa, and even help build Rome in a day!"

Admission is free however time tickets are required and can be reserved on the site. "Each ticket allows you to bring up to three children ages 15 or under with you in one car."

A true appreciation of the arts can start at an early age. The more often we expose our kids to the arts and provide opportunities to learn something new the more likely they are to grow a strong appreciation and life-long love. Otherwise the risk is they'll view art as unimportant, boring and confusing and we can't have that. Find the fun in the heavy stuff and let them lose. I can't think of a better, funner and less intimidating way or more beautiful place to spend a family day focusing on the arts.
