World City is here again this Saturday, Oct. 11th with some awesome

The Music Center brought back their popular and super-cool World City series. World City is a series of free family events showcasing renowned artists. Each event in the series is themed around geographical locations. The series returned last month with an event celebrating the Armenian arts. And this Saturday, October 11, families will be whisked away to South America.

Saturday's World City event will feature the music of
Los Llaneros and the dancing of Ballet Folclórico do Brasil.

"The lively Los Llaneros brings to the stage the often energetic and sometimes haunting melodies of the Colombian/Venezuelan Llanos or plains. Due to the distinctly characteristic syncopations and harp techniques used in the music of Llanos, it is rarely performed in its authentic style outside the region, making it one of Latin America's best kept secrets."

"Ballet Folclórico do Brasil is an exuberant Afro-Brasilian performing ensemble that bridges the ancient and urban world through music and dance. Do Brasil performs a rich and diverse repertoire including meditative choreographies of ritual dance, the rhythmic Maculelê stick dance/martial art, and the joyous percussive dances of the Batucada and capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art. Do Brasil is a unique opportunity to experience the new meaning of dance and music as authentically practiced in Brasil."

If you are planning to attend this magnificent free family event you need to make sure to arrive early and keep a few things in mind. The event is this Saturday at the W.M. Keck Foundation Children's Amphitheatre at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

"To complement the performances, the Music Center offers pre- & post-family workshops in the adjacent Blue Ribbon Garden. The first show is at 11:00 am with a repeat performance at 12:30 pm. All performances subject to change."

"All tickets are free and are distributed on Grand Avenue at 2nd Street. Tickets for 11:00am performance distributed beginning at 10:00am. Tickets for 12:30pm performance distributed beginning at 11:00am."

The Music Center's World City family music series and complimentary workshops, in my opinion, is a true diamond in the rough. What a great Saturday event to kick-off a special international day for the kids. With tons of tasty restaurants offering worldly treats, culturally themed shops on every corner and gorgeous libraries filled with books ready to transport you wherever your heart desires LA is the perfect playground for keeping the South America theme going. And to me, that's the makings of a purely magical and satisfying family day.
