It's a wigwam, it's a tepee..it's Turkey Day fun
Submitted by wendy on November 25, 2008 - 12:54pm.Native tent making equals Thanksgiving fun. Why not get a little crafty with the kids and raise(make) a village and perhaps learn a little something about these cone shaped homes along the way?
Hey kids, hows about a cornucopia for lunch?
Submitted by wendy on November 18, 2008 - 3:00pm.That's when they say "a what-a what-ia for lunch?" What can be sweeter than mixing a history with food? Teaching through their tummies. And that's exactly what I love about this well put together Cornucopia Lunch recipe compliments of Gourmet Mom on the Go. Her how-to is complete with recipe and instructional video. She's even included a link to a "color and cut out cornucopia activity" and historical background information on the cornucopia.
A few cupcakes that give the pumpkin pie some stiff competition
Submitted by wendy on November 18, 2008 - 2:35pm.Yet again Family Fun doesn't let us down. Not that there will major cupcake consumption with the ol' pumpkin pie on the Thanksgiving table ready to be sliced up and topped with some whip cream but there's some pretty over-the-top Thanksgiving themed cupcake action happening on the Family Fun site worth checking out. It boggles the mind what these folks can do with some decorating frosting, a cookie and some candy.
Help your teens give back a little during this time of thanks with LA Food Bank
Submitted by wendy on November 18, 2008 - 10:00am.When I was a teen my mother stressed, involved us in and made us aware of the importance of philanthropy namely community involvement. I was a certified coach for our local Special Olympics. I cleaned out my room and donated unused items to charities twice a year. She made sure I set aside a portion of my allowance to purchase toys for our local Toys for Tots program. I even helped package food items and clothing for the people in our community in need among many other opportunities.
"Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving": a sweet little Turkey Day book
Submitted by wendy on November 17, 2008 - 2:18pm.I'm not too keen on all these holiday themed books ripping from the classic story "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Clement Moore. This especially seems to be a popular thing to do when writing a children's Thanksgiving book. To me it's just one more way to force me to think about Christmas before Thanksgiving and that just bugs me something horrible. However, there is one exception I'm willing to make and I think you'll agree.
